NetJets is hiring and growing its fleet

NetJets plans to add more than 365,000 sq ft to its headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, with two new buildings that include a dedicated crew training center. It plans to hire about 800 more people, taking its central Ohio workforce to about 3,200 when the work is done in early 2029. It also expects more than 80 new jets in 2026. More crews and more aircraft help availability at busy times, which matters most to travellers who book at short notice.

Brokers are buying operators

Swiss charter broker Simply Jet has bought Austrian operator FlyTyrol, including its air operator certificate. FlyTyrol keeps its name and its 14 staff, and flies four Citation jets from Innsbruck and Salzburg, two of them available for charter. Simply Jet wants 10 aircraft under management by 2030. For clients, the question to ask any broker is the same as before: who is the operator, and which certificate does the flight run under?

Gulfstream and Jet Aviation keep climbing

General Dynamics’ Aerospace segment, which is Gulfstream and Jet Aviation, reported third-quarter revenue of $3,536 million, up 9.3%. Gulfstream delivered 40 aircraft, up from 39, and orders of $4,970 million gave a book-to-bill of 1.4x. Services revenue rose $96 million, driven mainly by higher FBO activity and maintenance demand: a sign that the existing fleet is flying hard.

A light jet with Autoland, a city that closes at night

Textron Aviation has rolled out the first production Citation CJ4 Gen3, expected to be the first light jet to market with Garmin Emergency Autoland, with a maximum range of 2,165 nm. In Australia, business jets can no longer use Sydney Kingsford Smith during curfew hours, 11pm to 6am, from 1 November. Domestic jets up to 20,000 kg take-off weight can land at Bankstown instead, and heavier aircraft must arrive between 6am and 11pm. The change affects fewer than two flights a week, but if you land late from Asia, plan the arrival time around it.

New flyers in the Gulf, busier airports in Texas

Airline schedules across the Middle East have been disrupted since February. On 7 October alone, FlightAware recorded 1,692 delays and 131 cancellations in the region, and regular business-class travellers have been booking their first charters from Dubai. In Texas, Fort Worth has spent nearly $75 million on its three city airports since 2020, and an FBO at Meacham reported 407 special-event fees tied to the World Cup, with July fuel sales up 28%. Big events still bring big private-jet traffic.

Desk takeaway

Capacity is growing, but access rules are tightening in places. Ask who operates your flight, check curfews before you choose an arrival time, and book early for event weekends. Browse the empty-leg board, set empty-leg alerts for your routes and follow the market in Market Intelligence.
